Not to be confused with Urbism.
Uribism is an Auth-Right populist political ideology based on the thought of Álvaro Uribe, president of Colombia from 2002 to 2010. It is based on an economically liberal populist government which will attempt to crush leftist dissent in any way, legal or illegal. He also highlights the fact that the communists represent a danger to the country, so they must be annihilated by force.
In 2002, the presidential candidate Álvaro Uribe won the presidency of Colombia, ending the bipartisanship between Conservatives and Liberals.
During his government, he managed to greatly reduce inflation and crime, as well as economic growth, and the paramilitaries were demobilized. However, his government also committed human rights violations, such as killing civilians and passing them off as guerrillas, as well as alleged links with the paramilitaries and corruption scandals.
In 2010, the Uribe government ended after Juan Manuel Santos won the presidential elections, thus passing Uribism into opposition. At this time, Uribe would create his political party Democratic Center.
In 2018, Uribism would return to power thanks to candidate Iván Duque Márquez
who at heart is a puppet of Uribe.
