Totalism is an alt-history Socialist ideology from the Hearts of Iron IV mod Kaiserreich based on a timeline-specific synthesis of Leninist vanguardism and the National Syndicalist thought of Georges Sorel. Totalism borrows the economic system and praxis of Syndicalism from the latter, believing the unions should direct the proletarian revolution, initiating it through a spontaneous general strike. From national syndicalism he also gets his nationalistic and authoritarian tendencies, believing a national mythos would motivate the average worker to carry out the revolution, and such a revolution would rejuvenate the national spirit through eliminating the alienating forces of Capitalism and partisan democracy. He also takes from the former in his support for a strong party, presiding over a strong centralized state to coordinate the unions and defend the revolution. Totalism is an ardent militarist and wishes to foster a dynamic culture of heroic idealism, sort of like our timeline's Fascism. The intention is typically to create a fanatically loyal society, willing to defend against the forces of reaction and also carry out the revolution to its end goals. To enable his militarist goals, Totalism is strongly in favor of rapid industrialization and focusing the economy on urban infrastructure and armament.

Despite being a nationalist, Totalism is emphatically not a reactionary, he is strongly opposed to Monarchy, Clericalism, and Imperialism. Despite this, he has been known to be occasionally regressive on issues of female participation in the workers' state. He is willing, just as the ideology of the Soviet Union in our timeline, to network with Socialist movements outside his home country (even if they are filthy libs) to help stoke or aid revolutions elsewhere.

    History

In the Kaiserreich timeline, Totalism was formulated after the Entente's defeat in the Great War. The failure of the October Revolution to take hold in Russia meant Marxism and ideologies seeking to closely emulate his beliefs became less influential in leftist thought. The failure of the Entente governments to defeat the Central Powers and their subsequent loss of territory led to a heightening of nationalist and ultranationalist sentiments. The Syndicalist revolutions in Western Europe saw many discontented nationalists join their union congresses and parties. Out of this political situation, many of these nationalist Syndicalists looked to Sorel's writings for inspiration as well as looking up to the more centralist vision of Lenin in the east. In 1936, Oswald Mosley, Benito Mussolini, and Georges Valois (all Fascists in our timeline) met in London to discuss a united effort and platform for Totalism, settling on central coordination of the unions, a one party state, a culture of national unity, and an industrial focus of the economy to feed the military machine, codified in the Totalist Charter. Other ideologies that did not partake in this congress are labelled 'Totalist' in the game, but are not necessarily adherent to the tenets of the Totalism of the Totalist Charter, ranging from the likes of National Bolsheviks to orthodox Leninists.

    • National Syndicalism - National myth and the desire for rebirth will motivate the workers forward to victory!
    • Leninism - The workers and unions will not organize themselves, we need your party to reign in the revolution.

    Frenemies

    • Fascism - To a decent extent, you're me in another timeline, so we have a lot in common; but unlike Futurism you cling to icky tradition. At least you aren't N*zi.
    • Council Communism - A decentralized revolutionary body is best when managed centrally, but you put too much emphasis on the petty demands of the masses and spend too much time on deliberation.
    • National Bolshevism - At first you had promise, but now you're just a meme that's gone too far. Learn more from your brother.
    • Ordosocialism - C L A S S A N D N A T I O N (but you're a bit too reactionary)
    • Anarcho-Communism - We both want socialism, so the International makes me put up with you, but get uppity and I'll make Stalin look like AnPac.
    • Christian Socialism - Wants socialism organized around reactionary micro communities, disgusting. I tolerate him UNTIL I GET INTO POWER AND THEN I THROW HIS PRIESTS IN PRISON.

    Enemies

    • Catholic Theocracy - Rome will fall like in the days of the Risorgimento!
    • Conservatism - Offers false cultural unity in order to perpetuate proletarian suppression.
    • Liberalism - Offers false freedoms in order to degenerate the masses and stifle class consciousness.
    • Reactionarism - The most evil force in human history.
