Rexism is a culturally right, economically corporatist and was strongly opposed to both Marxism and capitalism, instead striving for a corporatist economic model, idealising rural life and traditional family values. It was fascist ideology representing the Rexist Party of Belgium (1935-1945).
Rexism advocated royalism, Unitarianism, and borrowed many ideas from Integral Nationalism to establish a moral renewal of Belgian society.
History
The Rexist Party was founded by Léon Degrelle on Nov. 2, 1935. Degrelle was a journalist and member of the Catholic Party previously, which he found to be too moderate. It got support from Benito Mussolini Initially the party was modelled after Italian Fascism and Spanish Falangism, Once Belgium was invaded by the allied powers in 1944 the Rexist Party was banned and once Germany fell in 1945 many Rexist member were imprisoned for treason, with some of the higher up ones being executed. Degrelle himself however, who was charged with the death penalty in Belgium, took refuge in Francoist Spain where he lived the rest of his life.
