Pro-Westernism is a political belief that advocates political and military cooperation that join the interests of the United States, NATO, the European Union (EU) and some other countries in the world (especially Taiwan, Israel and Ukraine).

Unlike his brother, he seeks cooperation not only between North America and Europe, but the whole world, as is the case with countries in Latin America, Asia and some in Africa, with the aim of to establish democracy , human rights, individual freedoms and market economy.

    History

    Françafrique

Françafrique refers to the French sphere of influence in West and North Africa. Following the decolonization of Africa during the 1950s-1960s, France continued to maintain close political, economic, military, and cultural ties with its former colonies in the western and northern parts of the continent which have included Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, among other countries based on mutually beneficial economic and political arrangements with the ex-colonies. The United States supported France's continuing presence in Africa to prevent the region from falling under Soviet communist influence during the Cold War. France saw itself as a guarantor of stability in the region and therefore adopted an interventionist policy in Africa, resulting in military interventions that averaged once a year from 1960 to the mid-1990s. Françafrique has been weakened since the end of the Cold War due to budgetary constraints, greater public scrutiny at home and the integration of France into the European Union.

    Korea

    • Operation Black List Forty: Operation Blacklist Forty was the codename for the United States' occupation of Korea between 1945 and 1948 following the end of World War II and Japan's surrender.

The partition of Korea into occupation zones was proposed in August 1945, by the United States to the Soviet Union following the latter's entry into the war against Japan. The 38th parallel north was chosen to separate the two occupation zones on August 10 by two American officers, Dean Rusk and Charles Bonesteel, working on short notice and with little information on Korea's geography. The US would occupy the Southern part of the peninsula and the Soviets would occupy the North. The Americans hoped to establish a representative government supportive of American policy in the region, and the Soviets hoped to establish another communist nation friendly to their interests.

General Douglas MacArthur, who was in command of the occupation of Japan, ordered the commander of Operation Blacklist Forty, Lieutenant General John R. Hodge, to maintain a "harsh" occupation of Korea, with the goal of establishing an independent Korean government friendly to US interests. Due to due to a shortage of manpower, Hodge temporarily allowed the old Japanese police force to remain on duty for crowd control and similar work until the American replacements arrived. It is said that General Hodge's most significant contribution to the occupation was the alignment of his military government with that of Korea's wealthy anti-Communist faction, and the promotion of men who had previously collaborated with the Japanese into positions of authority.

The Koreans who collaborated with the Japanese imperialists during the Japanese occupation of Korea (1910-1945) would later be known as "Chinilpa" (친일파), meaning "Pro-Japan Faction." Among the notable Chinilpa was the former President and Military Dictator Park Chung-hee who served as the leader of South Korea from 1961 to 1979.

As the US and the Soviets were unable to establish a unified Korean government friendly to both nations' interests, the US sent the "Korean question" to the UN who proceeded with providing the Koreans with UN-supervised elections. However, the elections only applied to the portion of Korea south of the 38th parallel, as the Soviets saw the North as within its own sphere of influence. Exiled Korean leader Syngman Rhee was inaugurated as President of the Republic of Korea on 24 July 1948.

The United States and South Korea signed a military assistance pact on January 26, 1950. A few months later, the Korean War broke out which would last until 1953.

    Japan

After Japan's surrender by the end of WWII following the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, General Douglas MacArthur oversaw the Allied Military Occupation of Japan as Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, a position he had been assigned by President Harry S. Truman. The Allied Occupation of Japan marked the first time in history Japan had been occupied by a foreign power. The occupation would see Japan transforming from a military dictatorship to a parliamentary democracy, strongly aligned with US interests for decades to come.

At MacArthur's insistence, Emperor Hirohito would remain on the imperial throne without being charged for any war crimes. However, the new American-written constitution, ensured that the emperor's theoretically vast powers became strictly limited by law.

    Japanese Neoconservatism

Neoconservatism in Japan, also known as the neo-defense school, refers to a hawkish new generation of Japanese conservatives most of which are members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and whom also may have been part of the ultranationalist, revisionist organization of Nippon Kaigi. As members of the post-war generation, Japanese neocons view themselves as free of responsibility or guilt for Japan's conquests past war crimes that happened during the Imperial Era. It is worth noting that some past members of the Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Kaigi were soldiers in the Imperial Japanese Army during the Pacific War. This includes former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone who was stationed in Borneo during the Dutch East Indies campaign, and the founder of Nippon Kaigi, Koichi Tsukamoto who fought against the British Allied Forces in the Battle of Imphal during the Burma Campaign.

What defines the neoconservatives of the Liberal Democratic Party from other Japanese politicians is their desire to change and reinterpret the country's constitution, especially Article 9 which is viewed as obsolete. This would enable Japan to re-arm to the level of most other countries.

During the Premiership of Junichiro Koizumi, the Japanese government aided western powers in the Iraq War through the Japanese Iraq Reconstruction and Support Group (JIRSG) a battalion-sized, largely humanitarian contingent of the Japan Self-Defense Forces that was sent to Samawah, Southern Iraq in early January 2004 and withdrew by late July 2006.

    Operation Condor

Operation Condor was an operation between 1968 and 1989 in South America, which took governments from the left and placed capitalist dictatorships. The operation is known for its anti-communism and being an example of "American imperialism". The affected countries were: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile and Paraguay and their supporters were:

    • Luis Posada Carriles - Luis Posada Carriles was an anti-communist militant and terrorist, in which he was responsible for overseeing the capture of Che Guevara. In the condor operation, he was responsible for carrying out terrorist attacks in Cuba and the assassination of Orlando Letelier, the main opponent of the Pinochet government.
    • Jorge Rafael Videla, Alfredo Stroessner, Hugo Banzer - The aforementioned dictators are now very similar, Videla being the cruelest. In these dictatorships, indigenous peoples were persecuted, economic liberalization, support for Nazi refugees and (in Videla's case) persecution of Jews.
    • Emílio Garrastazu Médici - Emílio Garrastazu Médici was a Brazilian dictator who took over after the condor operation. The Medici government is known for economic improvement and Authoritarianism, especially for AI5, a law that allows censorship, restricting civil rights and torture. It also banned pornography.
    • Juan María Bordaberry - Juan María Bordaberry was a Uruguayan dictator who also took over in the condor operation, in the 1973 coup. His system was capitalist and agricultural with inspirations from Fascism and Francoism.
    • Augusto Pinochet - WIP.

    Colombia

Colombia is considered a historic Western ally, more specifically an American ally, even with the change of governments in 2021.

    • Laureano Gómez Castro - Laureano Castro was a Colombian politician who played an important role in relations between Colombia and the West, especially during the period known as "Violencia" in Colombia. Gómez was an advocate of the so-called "National Security Doctrine", which was a political and military approach adopted by many Latin American countries during the Cold War. This doctrine justified the repression of left-wing political movements and support for pro-Western regimes as a way to contain the advance of communism.
    • Andrés Pastana - President Andrés Pastana played an important role in strengthening US-Colombian relations. He designed Plan Colombia, which was a bilateral cooperation initiative to combat drug trafficking and improve economic and social development in Colombia.
    • Álvaro Uribe - Álvaro Uribe was the president of Colombia between 2002 and 2010, in which he was marked by his firm stance against guerrilla groups and drug traffickers. Uribe expanded Plan Colombia, a bilateral initiative between Colombia and the United States to combat drug trafficking and support development efforts. The plan was funded not only by the US but also by the European Union, Colombia's economic partner.
    • Ivan Duque - Duque, Colombian President from 2018 to 2022, has worked to maintain a solid political and diplomatic alliance with the United States on regional and global issues. He supported shared positions regarding challenges such as the crisis in Venezuela and the promotion of democratic values. He entered into bilateral partnerships with the US and the European Union for investment purposes. He froze relations with Russia after the Ukraine War in 2022, claiming that Russia committed ''genocide'' against Ukraine.

    Thailand

The Kingdom of Thailand has since the end of WWII been an important US ally on the global stage, serving as a bastillion of anti-communism in South East Asia during the Cold War, and has participated in multiple US-led military interventions. During the Korean War, Thailand under the reign of Plaek Phibunsongkhram was one of the UN's larger contributors of troops to the war effort. Under the military dictatorship of Thanom Kittikachorn was the third-largest provider of ground forces to South Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and allowed the United States Air Force in Thailand to use its air and naval bases with almost 50,000 American military personnel were stationed in Thailand throughout the war.

The US-Thailand military alliance was taken to new heights with the introduction of the Cobra Gold multi-national Indo-Pacific military exercises held in Thailand every year since 1982.

During the Premiership of Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand became a Major non-NATO ally. Thaksin's government also sent troops to Iraq and allowed the US to use Thailand for CIA-black sites for torture and interrogation of al-Qaeda suspects during the War on Terror. After Thaksin was ousted in a military coup in 2006, US-Thai relations deteriorated and many Thai conservatives and ultraroyalists have become increasingly critical of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

    Iraq

    • Iraqi National Accord - Iraqi National Accord (INA) or Wifaq is a political party co-founded by Ayad Allawi, Tahsin Mullah, and Salah Omar al-Ali in 1991 during the wake of the 2nd Gulf War as an opposition group to Saddam Hussein. The INA was at the time seen as an alternative, to alternative Shia-led opposition groups operating from Iran, and was largely funded by money from Saudi Arabia; with extra support coming from the UK and the United States.

INA membership consisted largely of military and security personnel who had defected from the Iraqi army under Saddam Hussein's rule and organized attacks inside Iraq in 1992 and 1995. In close cooperation with the CIA, the organization organized attempted a coup against Saddam in 1996, which ended in disaster to infiltration by Saddam's agents.

Following the US-led 2003 invasion of Iraq, the INA came to play a central role in the occupation government, and Ayad Allawi became Prime Minister of Iraq in 2003.

    Kosovo

The Kosovo Republic and its foreign policy since gaining sovereignty over Serbia/Yugoslavia in 2008, has been characterized by its strong support for the West and even described as ''Heroes''. This is explained by two factors: 1. NATO's support during the Kosovo War, which helped Kosovo with its aerial bombings in Serbia/Yugoslavia and managing to pressure Slobodan Milošević to end and withdraw his troops in Kosovar territory. 2. Recognition by most Western countries such as the USA, United Kingdom and France under the Sovereignty and Independence of Kosovo in 2008.

    In PCB/A

    • Tankis2000 - Aquiles Paraizo or Tankis2000 is a social-liberal and toucanist member of the PCB/A since May 2023. His views on foreign policy have been marked by favoring and a strong approximation to the West, defending guidelines such as sanctions against Russia, Interventions in Iraq and Serbia, the sovereignty of Ukraine and Taiwan. Recently, he has firmly declared his definitive support for the United States and its foreign policy, something that until 2023 was not very declared.
    • , followed by wiki user BERNHE0504, is an example of an extreme form of this ideology. While seeking genuine global cooperation with most of the world, he is very aggressive in the pursuit of this goal, to the point where others call him (and he has taken to self-defining as) a Western Chauvinist who views the United States and her allies as the definitive leaders of the free world. He seeks to enact what is essentially a massive pressure campaign on most nations (especially Russia) that are aggressive to the Western bloc and its values through economic bullying, unironic "cultural imperialism," the expansion of NATO and the bolstering of Western positioning in Asia . He also wants to develop reliable anti-nuclear defenses as soon as humanly possible, as he views the idea of nuclear disarmament childishly utopian, and to eventually use such defenses as a bargaining chip against the East. BERNHEism reserves a special hatred for Russia, whom he sees as everything wrong with modern politics rolled into one country. He seeks to not only beat them into submission without getting us all killed but to destroy the current values of the Russian government (and even some aspects of Russian culture) and replace them with something more "moral" and West-aligned. That being said, in the end, BERNHEism genuinely seeks to reach out and admit new members to the West while also making Europe less reliant on the United States once the Russian and Chinese problems are dealt with.

    Personality

He always wanted to convey an image of a good charismatic person and defender of human rights. During the Cold War he has been very concerned about the advance of socialism around the world, and because of this, this has made him (sometimes) forcibly implement his ideas under other countries to stop the advance of his rival enemy.

With the fall of the Soviet Union, he ended up changing his behavior a little, stopping supporting dictatorships in his favor and respecting more the human rights and individual freedom of other countries.
