Lincolnian Republicanism is the ideology, of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincolinism is in favor of preserving the union of the United States of America no matter the cost. Abraham Lincoln was a member of the Republican Party, called the National Union Party during the Civil War.
History
Lincolnism was defined by a strong desire for constitutional equality, and the abolition of slavery, as well high tariffs, and is generally more authoritarian than most other variants of national liberalism and is more culturally centrist. Lincolnism's idea of abolition is not based on the idea that all races are equal, but rather on the fear that white people would be enslaved as well. Lincolnism is perhaps regarded as one of the most influential variants of national liberalism alongside Gaulism as it changed the course of the United States and also changed the way America functions as a nation today.
Beliefs
Lincolnism originally believed in extreme preservation of the union, was against the spread of slavery, but didn't yet believe in abolitionism. Later, the Confederacy refused to make a deal which would allow slavery in the South where it already existed, and was to be made illegal everywhere else. When the South seceded from the union (Which Lincoln considered anarchy, and a betrayal of democracy) he was infuriated. Early, on he also believed in radical constitutionism which forced him tolerate slavery. Lincolnism was also a spokesman for business interests, favored high tariffs, banks, infrastructure improvements, and railroads. Even though he was a religious skeptic he often agreed with the Bible, and became known for quoting the scripture. He also viewed the Constitution with something like religious reverence.
Personality
Lincolnism's personality is obviously similar to that of Abraham Lincoln himself or his supporters. Abraham Lincoln was described to be shrewd and cunning, and as having great skill in oration. Often quotes the Bible to backup what he believes in.

- ↑ Like several Republicans at the time, Lincoln was an "avid reader" of the Tribune, meaning Lincoln may have read Marx's articles during this time. Lincoln read the newspaper for its coverage of American politics and the Tribune's editorial stance supported the Republican and Whig economic doctrines of abolitionism, industrialisation, and protectionism in trade. During Lincoln's presidency, Marx urged Lincoln to take a more hardline stance against slavery in articles Marx wrote for the Tribune. In 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, giving Marx and the abolitionists what they wanted.
