Kaczynskism is an ideology based off of the philosophy and beliefs of Theodore John Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, an American mathemetician and domestic terrorist, who between 1978 and 1995, murdered three individuals and injured 23 others in a nationwide mail bombing campaign against people he believed to be advancing modern technology and the destruction of the natural environment.

    History

In 1971, Kaczynski moved to a remote cabin he had built outside Lincoln, Montana, where he could live a simple life with little money and without electricity or running water, working odd jobs and receiving significant financial support from his family. Kaczynski's original goal was to become self-sufficient so he could live autonomously. He used an old bicycle to get to town, and a volunteer at the local library said he visited frequently to read classic works in their original languages.

Starting in 1975, Kaczynski performed acts of sabotage including arson and booby trapping against developments near his cabin.

    Bombings

Between 1978 and 1995, Kaczynski mailed or hand-delivered a series of increasingly sophisticated bombs that cumulatively killed three people and injured 23 others.

    Manifesto

In 1995, Kaczynski mailed several letters to media outlets outlining his goals and demanding a major newspaper print his 35,000-word essay Industrial Society and Its Future (dubbed the "Unabomber manifesto" by the FBI) verbatim. He stated he would "desist from terrorism" if this demand was met.

    Summary

Industrial Society and Its Future begins with Kaczynski's assertion: "The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race." He wrote that technology has had a destabilizing effect on society, has made life unfulfilling, and has caused widespread psychological suffering. Kaczynski argued that most people spend their time engaged in useless pursuits because of technological advances; he called these "surrogate activities", wherein people strive toward artificial goals, including scientific work, consumption of entertainment, political activism, and following sports teams. He predicted that further technological advances would lead to extensive human genetic engineering, and that human beings would be adjusted to meet the needs of social systems rather than vice versa. Kaczynski stated that technological progress can be stopped, in contrast to the viewpoint of people who he said understand technology's negative effects yet passively accept technology as inevitable. He called for a return to primitivist lifestyles. Kaczynski's critiques of civilization bore some similarities to anarcho-primitivism, but he rejected and criticized anarcho-primitivist views.

    Arrest

FBI agents arrested an unkempt Kaczynski at his cabin on April 3, 1996. A search revealed a cache of bomb components, 40,000 hand-written journal pages that included bomb-making experiments, descriptions of the Unabomber crimes and one live bomb. They also found what appeared to be the original typed manuscript of Industrial Society and Its Future. By this point, the Unabomber had been the target of the most expensive investigation in FBI history at the time. A 2000 report by the United States Commission on the Advancement of Federal Law Enforcement stated that the task force had spent over $50 million throughout the course of the investigation.

    Death

At 12:23 a.m. on June 10, 2023, Kaczynski was found in his cell unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Prison officials concluded his death to be a suicide, resulting from "neglect and lax patrol practices". He was in the late stages of cancer. The prison guard's union blamed the death on insufficient staffing.

    Beliefs and Personality

Kaczynskism believes that industrialism has been a disaster for the human race and should be abolished any means nessecary in order to protect the environment, conservatives are fools as they wish to preserve traditional values while somehow also progressive forwards and that leftists are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology and are not the average "black ghetto-dweller", "Asian immigrant", "abused woman" or "disabled person", but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society.

Kaczynskism is very light-hearted in the way he talks and is quite cheery but he can quickly become deranged and unhinged once he is talking about his beliefs and hopes for society.
