Hippieism is a movement and political ideology originating in the late 60s and gaining prominence in the early 70s by figures such as Timothy Leary, Alan Ginsberg, Ken Kesey, Ram Dass, and Jimi Hendrix. Hippieism was the driving movement for the Vietnam War protests, widespread consciousness of green energy, anti-nuclear proliferation, animal rights, connection with Earth, and  acceptance of mind-altering drugs.

Hippieism was a catalyst for the arts and music, raising awareness of the inhumane systems oppressing people, such as class, race, the war draft, and social expectations. Hippieism evolved from the beatniks and went on to challenge our systems of governance causing the birth of many other ideologies and general political awareness of important issues.
