Anatolianism or Anatolian nationalism developed in response to movements such as ummatism , Ottomanism and Turanism that gained strength during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Instead of being based on race, it put everyone living in the Anatolian geography at the center. It generally includes people who think that they should be united under the name of Anatolia. The golden age of the Anatolianists is the Seljuk period. The Seljuk period was a kind of golden age of Anatolian civilization as the "full and independent Turkish homeland". Most importantly, it was not in the desire to conquer places outside the homeland, but in the uprising of the people, that is, in autarky .
History
The first example of Anatolianism was the "Anadolu" magazine (1924-1925). The main purpose of the journal was to establish the Anatolian science, the Anatolian profession and the movement to explore Anatolia. After the Turkish War of Independence, they were in good relations with the current staff of the Republic of Turkey , which was almost confined to Anatolia, and with the Republicans . According to the magazine, the homeland was Anatolia, and every place other than Anatolia was a colony.
Mükrimin Halil Yinanç, one of the founders of the Anatolian history thesis, accepted that only Anatolian or Anatolian-Turkish history should be taught, not Turkish history. According to him, the activities of the Ottoman Empire were "to silence the Anatolian Turks by running around with wars".
Remzi Oğuz Arık was an important archaeologist working on Anatolianism. He used Anatolianism as a bridge between republicans , conservatives and nationalists because of his respectable position in the Republic. In fact, with the "defense mechanism" he mentioned, he showed the tendency of Anatolianism to isolationism instead of the Turan ideal.
The journal "Dönüm", an agriculturalist , peasant and ruralist journal operating between 1932-1936 and 1939-1940, emerged. Dönüm magazine mentioned that the economic basis of Anatolia was agriculture, had a militaristic understanding on it and defended farmer-army organizations. Again, according to the magazine, the peasant is not a class of the Turk, but a pure blood. This paved the way for Anatolianism to become racist .
Thanks to the "Millet" magazine that was published in 1942, Anatolianism started to operate again. The cadre, which consisted of nationalists who were at peace with the republic , now consisted of a nationalist-sacredist cadre. Anatolianism was turning into a view with populist approaches that gave importance to village and rural life.
Also around this time, the "Dikmen" magazine was founded and Dikmen was a populist magazine that talked about Anatolia transcending the East-West duality.
After the 1940s, Anatolianism became systematic. Some manifestos were written, economic, political, cultural doctrines were created and inspired by Western teachings. Nurettin Topçu created the idea of "Conservative Revolution " inspired by Germany and adapted it to Turkey. Published in 1939, the magazine "Hareket" provided the longest and most intellectual staff of Anatolianism.
Variants
Blue Anatolianism
Blue Anatolianism advocated that Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations were born in Anatolia and that Turkey should embrace the heritage of these civilizations. They believed that Europe could not get rid of Christian bigotry, and they acted with the idea of "becoming more Westernized than the West". Focusing only on the Aegean and Mediterranean regions of Anatolia, the Blue Anatolianists had a secular and Kemalist identity. They consider Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's statement "Armies, your first target is the Mediterranean!" as a truth, not a military order.
Ethnoanatolianism
Fındıkoğlu's economic thought is a school of Anatolianism, which is a combination of ethnic nationalism and ruralism . It is an idea that has an understanding of socialism and corporatism , which is also important to the bourgeoisie , is inspired by the idea of "Blut und Boden " in Germany and generally gets along well with Republicanists . Although it is not known what ideas it had in terms of the government system, he was the first school to support isolation .
Turkish Conservative Revolution
It is a religious , ultranationalist and totalitarian doctrine. Despite its religiousness, it is a doctrine that supports inquiry, philosophy, and intellectual piety. Sunni conservatism must be cultivated so that it does not become a tocracy. According to the Turkish Conservative Revolution, nationalism in Anatolia should be regional, not racial, but extreme. It is advocated to construct an abstract culture from Arab-Persian culture and Central Asian Turkish culture . To do all of this requires solid government and obedience. The Turkish Conservative Revolution, which aims to establish a totalitarian regime, called the government system "Free Totalitarianism " with its support for philosophy and freedom of thought. It is anti-Semitic and socialist. It has a new economic system combining Islamic economy and cooperative socialism . It advocates a spiritual Islamist social structure and is strongly against industry .
